Applications
The application process will be described at the informational meeting being held in Decatur January 30th. It is important that you attend this meeting so that you are informed about the program requirements and have up to date information about the application process. If you are unable to attend this meeting, please contact Deanne Hillman, Director of Teaching and Learning for the Decatur Public Schools.
Application Procedures for the SMMS Master’s Program
Note that you must have a 3.0 GPA in your final 2 years of undergraduate study (or final 60 credits) in order to be considered.
(1) Submit an on-line application at Application for Admission to the Graduate College. This page will open either as a new webpage or as a tab in your browser depending on the preferences of your web browser.
The $60 application fee is waived for this program.
Steps and necessary information for filling out the on-line application.
- After you access the appropriate website by following the link listed above, make certain to fill out the Personal Information, Contact Information, and Educational History pages completely.
- Additional information you will need in order to complete the Application Information Page:
- Proposed program -- “Education-Curriculum and Instruction”
- Degree -- EDM (Please use EDM and not EDMX as you were directed to do earlier by this website-- The EDMX was causing confusion in the application process and the University has asked us to change back to the EDM. We apologize for any confusion this is causing.)
- Field of specialization – Write “Elementary MSP”
- In response to “If admitted, do you wish to receive financial aid?” and the “I must receive financial aid in order to enroll” mark “No” and skip the rest of that section.
- In the “Fee Waiver” section, mark that you are eligible for an application fee waiver, and under “Allied Agency” write “Paid by Curriculum & Instruction, Elementary MSP.” Phone number is 244-3391.
- You may skip the page for "International Applicants", "Test Information" and "Languages".
- Statements Page—You are currently required to upload 3 documents:
(i) A recent resume
(ii) A personal statement essay where you briefly describe your goals as a teacher and why you are interested in this program. (This should be ~1 page single-spaced)
(iii) A letter of support from your building administrator. Please note this is a new requirement for the application (posted January 21, 2008).
There are no “Program-Specific Questions”– please skip this section.

(2) Submit original transcripts from all institutions (including UIUC) in which you have previously been enrolled for undergraduate and graduate studies. Request these be forwarded directly from the institution to:
