2012-2013 Letitia Walsh Fellowship
A single Letitia Walsh Fellowship for study in education is awarded annually to recruit an incoming doctoral level U.S. citizen or permanent resident who intends to pursue full-time student status (minimum of 12 hours per fall and spring semesters) on the Urbana-Champaign campus in the College of Education. Eligible candidates may include University of Illinois students who are applying for a new degree. The primary criteria for selection are academic merit, professional experience and potential for contributing to the field of education. Letitia Walsh was interested in the achievement of women. In selecting the recipient of the Letitia Walsh Fellowship, priority is given but not limited to female candidates being admitted to doctoral study in the College of Education.
The Letitia Walsh Fellowship recipient will receive a taxable stipend of $10,000 payable over 9-months as well as a tuition and service fee waiver for two consecutive years so long as the student maintains full-time student status in the College of Education for the duration of the fellowship. The nominating academic department must provide an assistantship of at least 25% per fall and spring semesters for the duration of the fellowship, which, is optional for the student to accept. A recipient of a College of Education Fellowship requesting to defer his or her admission entry term for more than one year must contact the admitting academic department in writing as soon as possible. However, if the admission entry term is deferred, only one year of support for the fellowship will be awarded. Guidelines are available through your Academic Departments and the Student Academic Affairs Office.
