2012-2013 Wanda Taeschner Babcock Fellowship

Please note: This fellowship is by academic department nominations only. Students do not apply. The College of Education Faculty and Academic Departments are encouraged to identify and recruit top candidates for this unique Fellowship.

A single Wanda Taeschner Babcock Fellowship is awarded annually to recruit an incoming master’s or doctoral level U.S. citizen or permanent minority resident who intends to pursue full-time student status (minimum of 12 hours per fall and spring semesters) on the Urbana-Champaign campus in the College of Education. Eligible candidates may include University of Illinois students who are applying for a new degree. The primary criteria for selection are academic merit, professional experience and potential for contributing to the field of education.

The Wanda Taeschner Babcock Fellowship recipient will receive a taxable stipend of $10,000 payable over 9-months as well as a tuition and service fee waiver for two consecutive years so long as the student maintains full-time student status in the College of Education for the duration of the fellowship. The nominating academic department must provide an assistantship of at least 25% per fall and spring semesters for the duration of the fellowship, which is optional for the student to accept. A recipient of a College of Education Fellowship requesting to defer his or her admission entry term for more than one year must contact the admitting academic department in writing as soon as possible. However, if the admission entry term is deferred, only one year of support for the fellowship will be awarded. Guidelines are available through your Academic Departments and the Student Academic Affairs Office.
