The Department of Special Education - CSEFEL

 

The Center on the Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning (CSEFEL) is a collaborative project with faculty and staff from many institutions including the University of Illinois.  The purpose of this project at the University of Illinois is to develop and disseminate materials and to provide training and technical assistance as part of the national effort to build the capacity of Head Start and Child Care programs and state systems to meet the needs of children with social and emotional challenges.

The project’s Promoting Social and Emotional Competence for Preschool Children course is a new online offering that allows early childhood professionals easy access to training across the country.  Participants in the course can receive 4 college credits, CPDU, or CEUs . SPED 459 will be available in Spring 2011 and is based on the CSEFEL modules which were designed using input gathered during focus groups with program administrators, training/technical assistance providers, early educators, and family members about the types and content of training that would be most useful in addressing the social-emotional needs of young children. The content covered in the CSEFEL modules is consistent with evidence-based practices identified through a thorough review of the literature.
