Study Abroad & Student Exchange

The College of Education recognizes the educational and social benefit of experiences abroad. Each year, its students travel to locations around the world for study while, at the same time, the College welcomes students from colleges and universities abroad to our Champaign-Urbana campus. These experiences not only benefit the students who leave their home universities for institutions abroad, they also enrich their host instutions and communities.

Illinois Students Abroad
The College of Education has a long history of sending both undergraduate and graduate students abroad. Each year, College faculty lead summer study programs to countries around the world. In recent years, for instance, undergraduate students have participated in faculty-led study programs to Argentina and Morocco and College-sponsored programs to Ecuador. At the graduate level, students in the Global Studies in Education (GSE) master's program join a yearly study abroad program that has recently travelled to India, Argentina and Turkey. This year, students at the undergraduate and graduate level, respectively, will study abroad in faculty-led programs to Argentina and Chile.

International Students at Illinois
The College of Education has an on-going relationship with the Honours College at the Universtiy of Macau. Each spring semester, these students enroll in courses from across the Illinois campus, including specially designed courses in leadership and research methods. Outside of the classroom, the Macau students participate in a range of enrichment activities, including volunteering in local schools, interning for local media, joining student organization, and travelling to Chicago and Springfield, the capital of the State of Illinois. This is only the most recent example of the College's committment to hosting students from abroad. In earlier years, for example, the College has hosted undergraduate students from the Hong Kong Institute of Education, Inje University, South Korea and Deakin University, Australia.

Study Abroad Funding (undergraduate)
Many students think that study abroad is expensive, but this is not necessarily the case. Program tuition and fees is often quite similar to what it is at the University of Illinois and, regardless of the tuition and fees of a particular program, many different types of scholarships are available. The scholarships listed below are only a few the scholarships available. Information on other scholarships and, more generally, the cost of study abroad is available on the Study Abroad website.
