Research and Other Graduate Degree Options
The College of Education offers a wide range of degree programs for students who want to a research component to their graduate study. Students who enroll in these programs typically anticipate academic careers, but many also pursue careers in other areas, such as policy-making, where research experience is valued. The College offers Master of Arts (MA), Master of Science (MS) and Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) research curricula.
Master's level students whose career path does not require a research focus should consider the College's Master of Education (EdM) programs, either online or on-campus. Depending on students' academic background and professional goals, the Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS) program and the Doctorate of Education (EdD) program, a doctoral-level degree that is less researched focused than the PhD, are also possible options.
All of these degrees programs usually require on-campus study, although mixed mode (on-line and on-campus) study is possible in some cases; and all programs draw on the extensive expertise of faculty members in our six departments.
Each of these departments offers multiple programs that correspond to departmental specialties.

Program Tuition
Based on 2008-2009 figures, fulltime international (non-resident) student tuition is $21,714.00 for the Fall/Spring academic year and $3,141.00 for the Summer Term. Tuition is subject to increases in subsequent years. In addition to tuition, students are also required to pay fees, and educational and living expenses (such as course materials and room and board). For on-campus tuition details, see: www.registrar.illinois.edu/financial/index.html. Tuition rates for mixed on-line/on-campus programs vary based on program, program duration, and the ratio of on-line to on-campus study.
Funding
Only very limited funds to support international Doctoral student are available. Competition for funding is high, and funds are only awarded to the strongest applicants. Students at Master's and Certificate levels self fund their graduate education either with personal resources or resources provided by their national governments.
