On-Campus Programs

The on-campus Master of Education (EdM) programs offered by the College of Education are designed to meet the needs and interests of students who anticipate working professionally in an educational field, such as teaching, administration, counseling or curriculum development, and for well-established professionals looking for additional training. Many topical options provide students with educational possibilities suited to a range of career paths. Some EdM programs provide broad knowledge of a field of study, whereas others are highly specialized.

It is possible to complete EdM on-campus programs in one calendar year (two semesters and a summer). For international students in particular the shorter duration of the one-year programs make them significantly less expensive than the two-year programs that are typically offered in the United States. Potential students who are interested in one-year programs should check to determine if completion within twelve months is possible.

The College of Education offers a wide range of degree programs for students who want to a research component to their graduate study. Students who enroll in these programs typically anticipate academic careers, but many also pursue careers in other areas, such as policy-making, where research experience is valued. The College offers Master of Arts (MA), Master of Science (MS) and Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) research curricula.

Master's level students whose career path does not require a research focus should consider the College's Master of Education (EdM) programs, either online or on-campus. Depending on students' academic background and professional goals, the Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS) program and the Doctorate of Education (EdD) program, a doctoral-level degree that is less researched focused than the PhD, are also possible options.

All of these degrees programs usually require on-campus study, although mixed mode (on-line and on-campus) study is possible in some cases; and all programs draw on the extensive expertise of faculty members in our six departments.

Each of these departments offers multiple programs that correspond to departmental specialties.
