Vision

The Department of Human Resource Education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign will be recognized at the state, national, and international levels as a leading center for research and education on individual and organization development within the framework of lifelong learning. The department educates and trains future researchers and scholars, reflective practitioners, and leaders for a wide variety of organizations and institutions. The Department's unique strength lies in the integration of psychology, organization studies, adult education, instructional design and technology, and global perspectives for individual and organizational excellence.

Mission

As part of a scholarly community in a premier research institution of higher learning, the Department of Human Resource Education engages in forward-looking research, graduate and professional education, and outreach activities for numerous constituencies. In alignment with these aims, the mission of the Department of Human Resource Education is to:

  • Create and disseminate new knowledge about human resource education through disciplined inquiry using multiple methodological approaches and theoretical frameworks.
Faculty and students in the department share a strong commitment to and actively engage in rigorous academic research. Faculty and student researchers place emphasis on theory building, theory validation, and the translation of theoretical knowledge to practical applications. Researchers in the department draw from a variety of fields and disciplines, among them psychology, education, and organization studies and thus play a crucial role in building and expanding the knowledge base of the emerging field of human resource education.
  • Provide quality education that provides students with the strong academic foundation needed for improving learning and performance in education, business, healthcare, military, non-profit and government organizations.

Human Resource Education students will have the ability to lead and facilitate change related to learning and performance as a result of academic experiences in reflective practice, applied processes, and use of technology.
  • Enhance the lives and productivity of our many constituencies by providing expertise and assistance through consulting activities, social engagement, and community development.

    These constituencies include members of the university and local, state and global communities that are concerned with improving productivity and fostering lifelong work-based learning through individual and organizational development.
