Program Summary

The 16 credit-hour, four-course eLearning Graduate Certificate programs at the University of Illinois are designed for the working professional looking to increase their skill set of core eLearning competencies. This curriculum provides learners with current trends accompanied with facilitation skills, and can be tailored to specific professional development needs.

The four eLearning Graduate Certificate programs are:

• Foundations of eLearning
• Management of eLearning
• Innovation of eLearning
• Evaluation of eLearning

An eLearning Graduate Certificate will be awarded after completion of 16 credit hours (four 4-hour courses). This certificate can be completed in one year.

Tuition

The 2008-2009 tuition rate for each 4-hour course is $1,928 (USD) and $964 for 2-hour courses. The tuition rate for 2009-2010 (begins in October 2009), will be $2,012 (USD) for each four-hour course and $1007 for two-hour courses. This rate includes both tuition and fees. Reading materials are not included in this amount. The tuition rate is the same for in-state, out-of-state, and international students. The cost for future courses is subject to moderate changes in accordance with the actions of the University of Illinois Board of Trustees.

Financial aid is not available for participants in the eLearning certificate program.

Schedule/Courses

Course instruction is 100% online, allowing students great flexibility in scheduling their learning. Course requirements include a time each week when students participate in synchronous online group sessions live synchronous online class sessions.  Each course is 10 weeks long. This schedule allows students to complete a graduate certificate in one year. However, the certificate may be completed at a slower pace. The Course Calendar displays the course sequence for the courses included in this certificate.

This customizable certificate requires the following courses to be taken at the earliest opportunity upon commencement of the program:

• HRE 490F: Foundations of Online Teaching and Learning

• HRE 470: Design of Online Learning Systems

• EPSY 408: Learning and Human Development with Technologies

You will choose the fourth course from the following list. The course you select will determine the Certificate you are pursuing.

Foundations of eLearning Certificate:

• HRE 472: Learning Technologies

Evaluation of eLearning Certificate:

• HRE 474: Evaluating eLearning Technologies

Management of eLearning Certificate

• HRE 490M: Management of Online Programs

Innovation of eLearning Certificate:

• HRE 590: Innovations in eLearning

Courses begin in January, April, July, and October!

* A bachelor's degree is required for this certificate program. You will need to provide official transcripts from any community college or university you have attended.
